came out of the fog

Yesterday was such a dismal day-dark and dreary and damp. those days are made for sleeping, which is what we did-pretending to read or watch college football, but finding ourselves shaken awake when the book hit the floor or a loud commercial interrupted the hum of the game.
Today is sunny-cold and windy. There are still a lot of clouds in the sky, but they are travelling high and fast toward Europe.
Friday was the annual Junior League Author's Luncheon, and our speaker was the co-author of Three Cups of Tea. I think he was the best author yet, bringing stories and photos from Pakistan and Afghanistan, where Greg Mortenstern is building schools and through that, working for peace. Let's face it, the way to a mother's heart is not through blowing up her house. It is helping her children. Especially her daughters, who so often are at best ignored, and at worst, abused and diminished. Educated mothers are the best chance we have for peace in this world-because they shape the hearts and minds of children-and once that heart and mind are shaped, it is hard to change them. The best haters learned to do it as children.
