had sticker shock!

I am floored. Stunned. Gob-smacked. I have spent the day pricing out wedding reception sites...and the ones I thought would be reasonable are not that far off the ones that I thought would be expensive. That's all good, except for the fact that they are all astronomically off-the-charts expensive!
This is the issue: She is our only daughter. We are thrilled that she and her fiance have found each other. We want to celebrate the day. But do we want to spend the equivalent of the down payment on a house to do it? Right now, a small reception is looking like it just might come in slightly under $10,000. Ouch on steroids.
I don't want this to be an issue, I don't want to feel like I am being cheap or spendthrift. I want to give them a lovely day. But does it have to be at $50 per person?
