The weather forecast is not promising-bitter cold, maybe snow (ha! chance would be a fine thing) and then more cold. The grocery stores are full of people stocking up on "bread and milk" the country staples. So I got to thinking-just what would I stock up on if I was going to be housebound for a while? (Not that that ever happens now, with snow plows and chemical deicers...but it's fun to dream.)
Of course, lots of books are all ready in the house-old favorites, a huge TBR pile, and a couple that could be used in other ways. Draft stoppers, scrap paper, fuel....
First, since our heat is electric, we better have plenty of something to burn in the wood stove-just in case. (see note about books above.)
Second-cat food. A happy, full kitty is more inclined to cuddle and keep a portion of me warm.
Third-toilet paper. Do I really need to explain that one? (see note about books above.)
Fourth-tea.
There is plenty of food in the pantry and fridge and freezer. Admittedly, some of the meals might consist of rather unique combinations, but we'd not starve.
but bread and milk? even without a stock-up, we'd survive.
