needed a nap

Rainy 4th of July-last year was rainy too. Our fireworks, conveniently all but in our back yard, are tomorrow night. At least the deck will be damp and thus, less prone to burning when stray sparks land on it.

Rainy holidays are not conducive to enjoyment. It's a holiday-that means fun and frolic. But rain means feeling sleepy and headachey all day-although I have thought deep thoughts today, they were not of such that I want to record-I'm just not into functioning. An early night with a good book is as ambitious as I think I will be.
I'm sure Samuel Pepys had the occasional off day, too. He would take himself to his bed in his new ribboned nightshirt of finest lawn with a posset of warm milk and spiced claret. Sounds like a plan. Where is the butler when you need him?
