I've become a regular reader of the blog written by an author I discovered in the spring: Deanna Raybourn. Today her blog featured a link to a British newsarticle about the increasing number of people deciding to become hermits. Deanna says she sees the attraction....and so do I!
I adore being home alone. My books, my kitchen, my computer, my chair, my deck......and my choice. Sit on the deck and read? Sit in the office and work? Listen to music? Dial in NPR? Watch timewasting television? Doesn't matter-I can please myself. Most importantly, I can have silence. (If the neighbors cooperate, of course. Why do they all need to mow on Friday evening?)
Of course, I realize that I value solitude because I don't have it as an endless lifestyle. The blessing of family and friends does sometimes become mixed...but I wouldn't want it any other way.
On another note-right now on NPR they are discussing fish pedicures. Carp nibbling away the calluses on spa patrons' feet. Okay-beyond gross. With Mafia overtones.
