took the laptop outside!

Homework on the deck, birdsongs, coolish breeze, tea, classical music...a very productive environment. What a great Christmas present this laptop was! Even if I did choose it myself.

But, you ask-homework? Why is a lady of your ...shall we say-life-experience...still doing homework? Ahh....Another 'benefit' of teaching in Pennsylvania is the 'opportunity' to continue my education...forever. And to pay for that 'opportunity'. As long as I want a valid teaching certificate, I must take 'continuing ed' classes. This summer I am taking two online classes-and as far as interest and relevance, as well as value for money, I'm very happy. Unlike last time, when I paid almost a grand to learn to manage a classroom (I've been doing it for 30+ years, I could have taught the thing) and to be a high-functioning, low-stressed educator. (What I learned: Set limits, pace yourself, make sure to add interesting activities and downtime to your life. There-I saved you $475. Sorry, can't award you the credits, though.)

Anyway...these two classes are about using technology-and while I love the internet, and emailing, and now blogging-using it in the classroom has been very hit or miss, and more as shortcuts than real enhancement. So I'm taking two courses I couldn't be teaching...a novel occurance for a teacher who has been doing this for as long as I have.
